Most dinosaur gembone is found in the green siltstone beds and lower sandstones of the flood plains and rivers of Utah and Colorado within the Morrison Formation, a late Jurassic deposit of a series of sedimentary rock dating to 150-200 million years ago which stretches through the western United States and into Canada.
